According to public information, in 2016, the tea area in Yunnan reached 610 acres, ranking second in China. The comprehensive output value of tea in the province was 67 billion yuan, and the tea industry has become an important industry in agricultural development.
In August 2016, “Qian Yi Yun Cha” (about the total value of Yunnan's tea will reach 100 billion Yuan by 2020) industrial summit held, Zhang Zulin, deputy governor of Yunnan Province, concluded that:” Yunnan's tea such as Dian Hong black tea (The Introduction of Dian Hong Jasmine Red Dragon Pearl) is renowned both at home and abroad, and Pu'er tea is especially becoming more and more popular.
Yunnan's tea industry keeps rapid development and constantly makes profits for farmers and enterprises, and contributes to the local fiscal revenue. Now, Yunnan's tea industry is at the critical moment of development. The development mode of it should be reformed according to the supply side requirements and change into large-scale, intensive and effective production. In the long run, all the tea enterprises should have a farseeing mind rather than seek short-term profit. Besides, the development of Pu'er tea may use the producing and managerial experience of Bordeaux wines for reference.”
In November 2017, the office of the People's Government of Yunnan Province proposed the course of action for the development of its tea industry. First, make clear the requirements for development and build a large tea industry; Second, cultivate tea plantations and make the best base; Third, support new-type organizations of operation; Fourth, give full play to local advantages and distinctness as well as create big brands; Fifth, strengthen quality supervision and enhance the role of culture and technology in driving economic; Sixth, meet consumer demand and continuously expand the tea market.
In the tea producing areas all over the country, the effective attempt of accurately alleviating poverty in the tea industry is being put on. During the period of the Two Sessions: NPC &CPPCC (National People's Congress and Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference), to take targeted measures in poverty alleviation is what many committee members concern. And the practical cases in the tea industry has succeeded throughout the country. For instance, there is a large rural poor population in Xinyang City, since the growing environment of Xinyang Maojian Tea is good, people develop tea industry to increase agricultural efficiency.
On the one hand, in many areas, poor villages have been taken as the breakthrough point, there are high-quality tea varieties planted in superior environment improving local economic through tea production. Some areas have a long history and unique regional culture. For example, some minority communities in Yunnan has developed tea tourism and extend the industrial chain combined with local characteristics.
On the other hand, the government also pay attention to improve quality and performance of the economy, break through traffic restrictions and expand distribution channels. With the combination of the Internet industry and traditional tea industry, self-employed tea grower and traditional tea enterprises have transformed sales channel systems and tea products in mountain districts are no longer unavailable in foreign markets. In the poverty alleviation project, training local tea farmers has become the priority day by day. When their concept of innovation improves, they will find a better way to get rid of poverty and become better off.
